Currently for the Solar Energy work, a team of dedicated volunteers have joined the Centre. The work is time demanding in terms of identifying suitable villages after detailed survey, sourcing suitable solar Lighting, arranging lantern distribution event, training villagers for its use and then monitoring the benefits coming to the village life and providing the maintenance for the first six months. Beyond that, it is expected that one person from the village developes appropriate skills and maintains solar lamps for a fee. Solar lanterns and panels are sourced from the market after testing their suitability. In early campaigns lanterns were distributed free of cost to the villages. To sustain the program, in future micro-financing concept will be implemented to make villagers more responsible towards ownership of the lanterns.
